In Japan, the sun came out and all of a sudden it was chocolate mint this and that. Light blue and green sprinkled throughout supermarkets, convenience stores, and eateries. We decided to venture through Tokyo to get our hands on some of the chocomint treats here!
*Mouth watering*… it was taste test time.

Chocolate Mint Bagel

Japan mint chocolate bagel
Chocolate mint+bagel? Blue+bagel?

This one definitely took us by surprise. A new development in bagel history. We kept the preparation simple: lightly toasted and buttered. It was slightly spongier and sweeter than a usual bagel. Our taste buds were a bit confused… We’re not quite sure if bread and chocolate mint flavor are the best combo, but definitely an interesting try for any mint lover.

Mint Kit Kats

Kit Kat Japan Mint
Kit Kat Japan does not waste time, okay, and neither do we.

This summer Kit Kat Japan released three varieties of mint-flavored Kit Kats. Peach Mint, Premium Mint, and Yogurt Mint.

Peach Mint tasted like a creamy white chocolate blend with a fruity peach accent. It also had traces of rum for a slight kick. We would have never thought to pair alcohol, peach, mint, and chocolate together, but hey, it works! It’s also featured in July’s Japan Crate.

Premium Mint is similar to a classic chocolate mint candy bar. A balanced combo of dark chocolate and mint cream sandwiched between wafers. This one also had an alcohol percentage of 0.11% for a little zing.

Yogurt Mint was on the milder side and also alcohol-free. It was a flavorful blend of white chocolate and creamy yogurt with a hint of mint.

Chocolate Mint Candy & Snacks

Japan candy mint
“Hello, May I take your order?” Yes, the color turquoise please.

Mochi Mochi Chocolate is an amazing Japanese candy that often comes out with new flavors. They’re soft mini mochi balls with rich flavored filling. Basically, mochi ice cream that can be eaten whenever because it never melts. They released a chocolate mint flavor that is the best Japanese summer treat.

Bake is a candy with the concept that “it’s easy to eat while studying or working” because it doesn’t leave residue on your fingers. The outside has a thin crispy texture with a soft center. This mint edition of the candy packs a strong and refreshing mint flavor. Superior on the mintiness scale.

Caramel corn is a sweet and savory snack with a delightful puffy crunch. It also comes out with limited and seasonal releases such as this chocomint flavor and a summer ramune flavor. Chocolate mint in chip-like form was a first but tasted perfect for a picnic!

Minty Chocolate Frappuccino

Starbucks Japan mint chocolate frappuccino
Don’t spill. Don’t spill. Don’t spill.

Starbucks introduced a new Minty Chocolate Frappuccino for a limited time and only in Roppongi, Tokyo locations. The drink was made with the Teavana Mint Citrus Tea and blended with milk, chocolate, and generous amounts of whipped cream. It was topped off with chocolate sauce and cacao nibs which added a delightful crunch. Check out the taste test video here!

Everything was a refreshing contrast to the melting heat of summer in Tokyo. If you’ve got mint on the mind grab some snackies here!

Ramen lovers rejoice! We’re blessed with cherry blossom inspired ramen. Ippudo, one of the most famous ramen restaurants in Japan, released limited seasonal Spring ramen.

Ippudo’s Spring Ramen is a hipster health-conscious twist on tonkotsu ramen. Its broth is a light cherry blossom color made from a mixture of tonkotsu and beetroot. It is topped with pickled purple cabbage, broccolini, onions, roasted potato, chicken breast, sakura shrimp, and pink shrimp cracker.

IPPUDO Spring Cherry Blossom Ramen Sign
Is it ramen? warm salad? A Los Angeles fusion food-truck style meal?

We head to Ippudo’s new 1/2puddo branches in Tokyo to find out what this concoction is all about. However, only 30 bowls of the sakura-color ramen are available per day. A single drop of sweat runs down our forehead as we ride the elevator 7 floors up. We can only hope we came early enough to be one of the lucky 30 of the day.

We head inside to be seated at a table. Shortly after we hit the waiter with the “Sumimasen!” and order the ramen in hopes it’s still available. “Yata!” It’s still in stock and all is going according to plan!

IPPUDO Spring Cherry Blossom Ramen
We did it fam. Let’s do this!

The ramen tastes relatively healthy. Well, as healthy as ramen can taste. The broth is a smooth light tonkotsu flavor with a sprinkle of pepper and basil. The pickled purple cabbage added a surprising but tantalizing sour contrast to the heavy noodles.

The shrimp cracker floated like a ramen boat housing a pile of sakura shrimp. They both added a crisp and crunch to this Spring fusion flavor trip. It was fitting considering sakura shrimp matches the cherry blossom theme. Even the egg was a pastel pink color and the perfect consistency of oozy goodness on the inside.

On the flip side, we were a bit hesitant about having chicken and potato all mixed up in the ramen. However, we allowed it and don’t regret it. They suited the other vegetables and were simply seasoned.

IPPUDO Spring Cherry Blossom Ramen
Purple cubes in my ramen???

We found some mysterious purple cubes hiding at the bottom of the bowl. There was only one way to find out what it was… It’s the pickled beetroot! The ingredient that gives the ramen its cherry blossom color and alternative edge. It’s not like other ramens, okay?

Overall, it’s definitely a different take on ramen, but delicious nonetheless. We recommend treating yourself to this cherry blossom ramen while you can. Unfortunately, when the cherry blossoms go so does this ramen as it will only be available until April 20th. To try a variety of noodles and instant ramen from Japan click here!

Starbucks started spring celebrations with sakura! First in line was the Starbucks Sakura Chocolate Strawberry Jelly drink. It graced the shelves of convenience stores on February 12th to pep us up for the season.

We headed to the store to snag a drink for ourselves. The packaging had immediately set itself apart from the rest. There it was in flashy pink attire with gold cherry blossoms that basically screamed “Pick me!”

Starbucks Sakura Chocolate Strawberry Jelly Drink
Which is exactly what happened…

As we attempted to contain our excitement we gave our drinks a little shake and shimmy to break up all the strawberry jelly bits. The drink was definitely sweet and closer to a dessert than a morning “shift into maximum overdrive” jolt. It was creamy with a milky base of white chocolate and vanilla. The strawberry jelly added some fruity fun and an interesting texture similar to a tapioca drink.

Starbucks Valentine Customania Frappuccino

Our dearest sweetheart, Starbucks, released a new seasonal Frappuccino in celebration of the sweetest day of the year! So, of course, we had to head to the cafe on opening day looking for a cup of love (Aka coffee) to pick up the Starbucks Valentine Customania Frappuccino!

Starbucks understands that one lover doesn’t suit every person’s taste. Therefore, there are three varieties to choose from: the +Romantic, +Chocolate, or +Coffee!

Starbucks Valentine Customania FrappuccinoHey there, good-looking!

We flung open the doors and walked in ready to be greeted by a new aphrodisiac taste. Unfortunately, we were greeted with a line snaking down a couple of rows. In other words, we were off to a bumpy start, but like they say, “Good things come to those who wait…”

Starbucks Valentine Customania FrappuccinoWhich one?!?

Our love was won over by the enticing sprinkle toppings so we choose the +Romantic and +Chocolate. We anxiously awaited as we see one Valentine Frappucino after another being made and swiftly taken away.

Starbucks Valentine Customania FrappuccinoLook at these perfectly matching babes!

The Valentine Customania Frappuccino has a base of cacao, caramel, and the aroma of dark roasted coffee. It was a refreshing change from the recent seasonal releases, such as the Strawberry Cake Frappuccino, White Chocolate Snow, Pistachio Christmas Tree, which lacked an essence of coffee. The combination was a smooth blend of bitter and sweet. Additionally, the Starbucks staples of whip cream and chocolate syrup top off each drink.

Starbucks Valentine Customania FrappuccinoSpitting sprinkle game

The +Romantic has the addition of bright pink sprinkled meringues for a dash of color and strawberry sweetness. The +Chocolate included the topping of chocolate biscuit bits which bore a resemblance to the taste of Oreos.

Starbucks Valentine Customania FrappuccinoSip….Crunch….Crunch….Sip

The real kicker is the texture! It was incredibly crunchy with a blended base of crispy cacao cookies. Overall, it was reminiscent of opening the snack cabinet to scrounge around for leftover cookies and half empty chocolate syrup to add to a glutinous bowl of cookies & cream ice cream. All of that and a hint of coffee. A flavor that encompassed a mix of childhood and adulthood.

Starbucks Valentine Customania FrappuccinoThe hearts! Nice touch SB!

We voted the +Chocolate as our favorite between the two! It seemed fitting since loads of chocolate is quintessential of Valentine’s day. Old faithful chocolate will never let you down!

The Starbucks Valentine Customania Frappuccino is available in Japan until February 14th with prices starting from ¥590. Which one do you want to try?

The Sanrio and McDonald’s collaboration was exciting news for lovers of kawaii characters & burgers alike. The My Melody Holder and Little Twin Stars toys were popular releases in Japan for their sheer cuteness. We joined in on all the fun and long lines to get our hands on the limited items.

My Melody Holder
McDonald’s announced the My Melody Holder last November and designed it to perfectly fit french fries and a drink. Why carry your food in a brown bag when it could be sweetly cradled by My Melody?

McDonald's My Melody Holder
It’s called fashion, look it up

They sold out at Tokyo locations by the end of the weekend. The best part, aside from it being a huge My Melody face, is its versatility. It functions as a handheld carrier, secures on the back of a car seat, and is useful with no strap at all.
